NGC908 – Chile

This is a pretty stunning looking object. Its the spiral galaxy NGC908 in Cetus. Note its fork tailed arm at the bottom. Not only is it split, but its also elongated. Probably indicative of a nearby interaction with another galaxy a long while ago. It displays vigorous star formation and is classified as a star burst galaxy.

It lies about 56 million ly away, and is very large – with an estimated diameter of about 119,000 ly.
