NGC7174 – Chile

This is a cluster of interacting galaxies down in Piscis Austrinus. It is a sub-group of the Grus-Indus galaxy cluster.

At the bottom is NGC7174, which seems to be passing in front of the elliptical NGC7173 on its left. The elliptical just above it to the right is NGC7176. Then the sort of “little hamburger galaxy”, NGC7172, is shown edge-on at the top. (To the far left in the picture is the edge-on PGC67910.)

The “haze” surrounding the bottom 3 would seem to be the gaseous envelope highlighting their interaction.

For a distance perspective to the group NGC7174 lies about 123 million ly away.
