This is a “Magellanic” type barred spiral. Its angle of observation unfortunately obscures a lot of information. While clearly asymmetrical in shape it displays dust lanes in its core region and shows reddish star forming areas. At 6.5 million ly away it lies partway between the Sculptor Group and our Local Group of galaxies.
