NGC7184 – Chile

NGC7184 is an impressive spiral about 115 million lyrs away in Aquarius. It is much larger than the Milky Way with a diameter of about 175,000 lyrs across.

This is an SB class galaxy with a strong inner circle feature. The right side of the galaxy is disturbed, indicating a probable interaction with another galaxy in its past. The far right side displays a “smearing back” of the outer structure combined with evidence of new star formation in the faint HII regions dotting the remaining long, thin spiral arm. Also note a faint brownish/red blotch at the tail end of that arm.
