GN 16.43.7-01 – Chile

This is a cometary globule buried in a dusty region of Scorpius about 5,000 lyrs away.

It has been nicknamed “The Dark Tower”. It is shaped by the flow of intense ultraviolet radiation coming from the open cluster NGC6231. The cluster is not
part of this picture – lying to the upper right, out of the scene. The radiation is especially conspicuous around the top edge of the Dark Tower where it is
colliding with the dark dust.
