Here is the elliptical galaxy M60 with its “companion” – the spiral NGC4647. They lie in Virgo with M60 somewhat closer at 54 million lyrs and NGC4647 at 63 million.
The spiral is a flocculent and is apparently just beginning to show a reaction to the giant elliptical. The latter houses one of the largest black holes ever detected – about 4.5 billion times the mass of the sun.
