RCW32 – Final Color

RCW 32 - Chile

RCW 32 – Chile

RCW 32 is an impressive combination emission and reflection nebula with a wide range of detail. The main cause of the emission is the bright, central star HP 74804, which is strongly ionizing the nebula.

A crooked lane of dark dust dominates the central region, while other dark lanes trace their way around the left and bottom outer portions of the nebula.
The blue reflection ribbons or tendrils near the top center of the nebula are only visible in long exposure images.

A bright blue/white star dominates the foreground at the top, while a colorful variety of stars encircle the nebula. In the upper right of the image we can see a compact cluster of stars named N2671.
