LDN1622 is a dark cloud of dust embedded in a complex field of nebulosity. Here we see an entanglement of reflection and emission nebulas surrounding it.
It lies fairly close to us at about 500 ly away in Orion – much closer than M42. It is relatively small – only about 10 ly across.
