NGC4038/4039 – Chile

The “Antennae” lies about 45 million ly away. These are 2 galaxies caught in collision. Note the dark red bridge connecting them where the turbulent activity is creating new stars. The two long tails of gas, dust and stars expelled from the two galaxies are
spiraling out behind them – giving the impression of antennae.
