IC5152 – Chile

IC5152 in Indus is classified as an irregular dwarf galaxy. It is probably a rogue galaxy, not identifying with a particular group, while lying in the space between the Local Group and the next group out – the Sculptor Group.

This “study in blue” is also an interesting one for perspective. The bright star in front blocking the galaxy is SAO247284. It lies about 494 ly away, while the galaxy itself is about 5.8 million ly out.
